Privacy Policy
Effective Date: Apr 28, 2026
Last Updated: Apr 28, 2026
Welcome to Scan QRCode. We believe that transparency is the foundation of trust. Most privacy policies are written in confusing legalese, but we want to clearly explain how our lightning-fast QR scanner and comprehensive QR code generator interact with your data.
Our core philosophy is "Local-First". We engineer our application to process as much information as possible directly on your device, minimizing the data that ever leaves your hands. This Privacy Policy outlines what information we collect, why we need it, how we protect it, and the rights you have over your personal data.
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
To provide you with our core features, we require access to certain device capabilities. We only request these permissions when absolutely necessary:
· Camera Access: * Why we need it: To enable our "Fast & Accurate Scanning" feature.
How we handle it: The camera feed is processed locally on your device using on-device machine learning/vision frameworks. We extract the text/URL from the QR/Barcode. We do not record video, take secret photos, or transmit your camera feed to our servers.
· Photo Library Access: * Why we need it: To allow you to scan QR codes directly from images saved in your gallery without opening the camera.
How we handle it: We only access the specific photo you manually select. The image is analyzed locally for QR codes. We do not scan your entire photo library in the background, nor do we upload your personal photos to the cloud.
· Location Data: * Why we need it: To power our "Geographic Location QR Code" generator, allowing you to quickly share your current coordinates.
How we handle it: Location is only accessed when you actively use this specific feature. The GPS coordinates are immediately converted into a QR code. We do not track your continuous movement or build a location history profile.
· Automatically Collected Usage Data:
To ensure the app runs smoothly, we may collect anonymous, aggregated diagnostic data. This includes crash reports, device models, operating system versions, and app launch times. This data is strictly de-identified and used solely for bug fixing and performance optimization.
2. Local Storage and Data Retention
We empower you to manage your own data footprint.
Scan History: Your "Scan History" is automatically saved to an encrypted local database (such as SQLite or CoreData) directly on your iOS device. It acts as your personal, offline archive.
Generated Codes: Any QR codes you create using our "Create Any Code" tool (URLs, Contacts, WiFi, SMS) are generated locally.
Data Deletion: Because this data lives on your device, you have complete control. You can delete individual scan records or clear your entire history within the app settings at any time. If you uninstall the app, this local data is permanently deleted.
3. Third-Party Services and Advertising
To support the ongoing development and maintenance of our app, we may integrate selected third-party services:
Advertising Networks (e.g., Google AdMob): We may partner with third-party ad networks to display advertisements. These networks may utilize mobile advertising identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA) to serve ads that are relevant to you. You maintain full control over this via your iOS system settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking). If you opt out of tracking, you will still see ads, but they will be less relevant to your interests.
Analytics Providers: We may use tools to understand how users interact with our app (e.g., which QR code templates are most popular) to guide future updates. This data is aggregated and contains no personally identifiable information (PII).
4. Your Global Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA/CPRA)
Depending on your region, you are granted specific rights regarding your data. Even though we collect minimal to no personal data on our servers, we respect these rights globally:
Right to Access & Portability: You can request to know what data we hold about you. (Note: For local scan history, you already have full access within the app).
Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): You can request the deletion of your data.
Right to Opt-Out of Data Sales: We do not sell your personal data. If third-party ad networks are used, your iOS settings govern the sharing of your advertising ID.
5. Data Security
While no digital system is 100% secure, we implement industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information. By utilizing Apple's native security frameworks and keeping the majority of data processing strictly on-device, we drastically reduce the risk of data breaches.
6. Children's Privacy
Our application is designed for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will take immediate steps to delete it.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
As we add new features (such as supporting new social media QR templates or advanced scanning formats), we may update this Privacy Policy. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this document or via a prominent in-app notification.
